Hunting in New Zealand – A Paradise for Hunters

Adventure

New Zealand offers a unique hunting experience, defined by freedom and adventure in breathtaking nature. For Central European hunters accustomed to strict regulations and densly populated land, this is an exciting and authentic way to experience hunting.

Free

Unlike in Central Europe, there are no closed seasons for introduced game species such as red deer, tahr, chamois, sika deer, fallow deer, wild boar, and goats. This allows for flexible hunting trips tailored to your preferences—while still maintaining the highest standards of ethical hunting.

Easy for everyone

Anyone can hunt in New Zealand as long as you hunt in company. If you don't use your own gun, nothing stands in the way of a spontaneous hunting trip next week.

Limitless variety

Public wilderness areas and private hunting grounds offer exceptional hunting opportunities in alpine landscapes, deep forests, and vast open spaces. Our experienced guides ensure an unforgettable experience with thrilling stalks and interesting game.

Frequent Questions

How do I travel to New Zealand, do I need a visa? If you are traveling to New Zealand from Austria, Germany, or Italy, here are the key things you need to know: 1. Visa Requirements Citizens of Austria, Germany, and Italy can travel to New Zealand for up to 3 months (90 days) visa-free for tourism or business purposes. However, you must apply for a New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority (NZeTA) before you travel. The NZeTA can be obtained online or via the official app and usually takes up to 72 hours to process. You will also need to pay an International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy (IVL) when applying. 2. Passport & Entry Requirements Your passport must be valid for at least 3 months beyond your planned departure from New Zealand. You may be asked for proof of onward travel, such as a return ticket. 3. Flights & Travel Routes There are no direct flights from Austria, Germany, or Italy to New Zealand. Most travelers transit through hubs like: Dubai (Emirates) Doha (Qatar Airways) Singapore (Singapore Airlines) Hong Kong (Cathay Pacific) Los Angeles or San Francisco (Air New Zealand, United, Lufthansa codeshares) Tokyo (Air New Zealand, ANA) Flights usually take 24-30 hours depending on layovers.

Can I bring my own gun? Yes, you can bring your own firearm to New Zealand, but you need to apply for a Visitor’s Firearms License and obtain a Temporary Import Permit before arrival. We suggest you to use a rental weapon. The application for the firearms licence can be done online through the New Zealand Police website and must be submitted at least one month in advance. Upon arrival, your firearm will be inspected by customs and must meet New Zealand’s legal requirements. Important: Semi-automatic rifles and certain firearm types (shotguns) are restricted. It is advisable to check current regulations before traveling.

Hunting rules in New Zealand? New Zealand has no seasonal restrictions on hunting most game species, allowing year-round hunting. However, some regulations apply: You must obtain the proper hunting permit, which varies depending on whether you hunt on private land or public conservation land. The use of silencers and night vision is permitted but must comply with local laws. No bag limits for most introduced species (e.g., Red Stag, Tahr, Chamois), as they are considered invasive. Bow hunting is legal, but you must follow ethical guidelines for fair chase hunting.

Which gear do I need? For a successful hunting trip, we recommend bringing: Clothing: Layered hunting apparel, waterproof and windproof outerwear, camouflage or earth-toned colors. Footwear: High-quality waterproof boots with ankle support, that are already fitted to your foot. Don't use completely new boots as they may hurt on long hikes. Optics: A good set of binoculars and a scope suited for long-range shots. Backpack: Lightweight but with enough storage for day hunts. Other essentials: Gaitors, hat, and change underwear. If you don’t want to bring your own gear, rental options are available on request.

Which game can I expect? New Zealand is home to a variety of huntable game species, including: Red Stag (the most sought-after trophy) Fallow Deer Himalayan Tahr Chamois Wild Boar Goats & Rams Depending on the region and season, different species may be more abundant.

We provide trophy preparation services, including: Skinning & caping (preparing the hide and antlers for taxidermy) European Mounts & Shoulder Mounts Shipping & export documentation We work with trusted taxidermists and can arrange direct shipping to your home country in compliance with international regulations.
